Meet Christin: 2023 Scholar
Our College Scholars receive a financial scholarship to help with academic expenses, and each scholar commits to undertaking a volunteer project of their choosing related to childhood cancer advocacy, with support and mentorship from the Children's Cancer Cause team.
Christin’s Story
Christin, a native of Lancaster, Texas, was diagnosed with Stage 3 Wilms tumor when she was four years old.
“My right kidney’s tissue had already been completely destroyed by the tumor, so there was no other choice but to remove it,” Christin shared with us.
“I’ve been cancer-free for more than a decade now, and I’m more than ecstatic to declare that I am a survivor.”
Christin’s Advocacy Project
Christin plans to study biology at the University of Chicago. For her scholarship volunteer project, she’s planning a donation drive on campus each quarter to collect toys and bandanas for a local summer camp for children with cancer.
“When a family is going through something as serious as cancer, there is not usually time or money to spend on things other than medical bills,” she explains. “Although bandanas and toys may seem small, they can have a big impact on a child’s cancer journey and make it not as hard as it could be.”
