Throughout our 25th anniversary year, we’re featuring champions who’ve been nominated by the childhood cancer community for their outstanding contributions toward our mission of improving the lives of children with cancer and survivors.

At Children’s Cancer Cause, we’ve been honored to work alongside Dr. Vickie Buenger for many years. Her dedication and commitment to building a strong and united childhood cancer community has resulted in a coalition that now includes more than 230 individual and member organizations.

After her daughter Erin died of neuroblastoma in 2009, Vickie helped launch the Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2) to coalesce childhood cancer foundations and individual advocates with the goal of increasing community collaboration around support, education, research, and advocacy.

She is currently president emeritus of CAC2, providing guidance to its members and other stakeholders in the childhood cancer community.

Children’s Cancer Cause is a founding and active member of CAC2, and we greatly value the opportunities the coalition presents to partner and collaborate with other childhood cancer organizations and advocates on shared goals.

“Vickie Buenger is a scholar, a dear colleague, and a compelling advocate for children with cancer. She has accomplished something that some of us thought of but none of us could do, which is to aggregate the grassroots groups into an effective national coalition,” said Susan Weiner, PhD, founder of Children’s Cancer Cause.
