CHAMPION PROFILE: SUSAN AND STEPHEN SCHERR AND FAMILY

Throughout our 25th anniversary year, we’re featuring champions who’ve been nominated by the childhood cancer community for their outstanding contributions toward our mission of improving the lives of children with cancer and survivors.

Susan Scherr is a long-time Children’s Cancer Cause board member and - alongside her husband Stephen - hosts our signature fundraising event in New York City every fall.

Susan and Stephen are parents to four children, including William, a survivor of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). William sits on our Survivorship Advisory Council, and Susan is a member of our Board of Directors.

At our 2024 New York Event, Children’s Cancer Cause founder Susan Weiner honored Susan and Stephen with an outstanding achievement award for their tremendous support of the childhood cancer movement.

That support began back in 2003 when the two Susans met at an early Children’s Cancer Cause fundraiser.

“After several events in the Scherrs’ apartment, Susan really took the lead to organize fundraising events in some of the most prestigious places around the City, including the James Burden Mansion. The Scherr family also hosted wonderful summer art events for many years,” Susan Weiner recalled. “All of these successful events bore the elegant touch of Susan Scherr - with Stephen’s quiet, steady support always in the background.”

Without the hard work and support of the entire Scherr family, it’s hard to imagine how we, as a leading national advocacy organization, could now be marking 25 years with a record of success in championing policies and programs that improve the lives of children with cancer and survivors.

We invite you to join us in making a 25th anniversary gift to celebrate the Scherr family.
