Now Accepting Applications for 2020 College Scholars Program

Children’s Cancer Cause is again offering an opportunity for two childhood cancer survivors to gain valuable cancer advocacy experience. Award recipients will receive a scholarship of $2,000 via our College Scholars Program. Apply Here →

Our College Scholars Program includes a requirement of completing a childhood cancer advocacy project of the scholar’s choice. Projects could be as extensive as a summer internship in our DC office to something more local, like organizing an awareness event in your hometown or mobilizing other students at your school in a letter-writing campaign. Your creativity is encouraged, and you’ll receive mentorship and support from our team toward completing your chosen project.

Our scholarship selection crew is looking forward to reading this year's batch of applications. These young survivors are always so inspiring -- and have the best ideas for creating change with impactful advocacy projects!

Meet Our 2019 Scholars →

Here are just a few of the advocacy project ideas submitted to us last year:

  • "My proposed program puts a focus on the mental health and well-being of childhood cancer patients. On treatment days, children often feel powerless. There are rarely any choices given to children in the protocol of their treatment or the medications they must take to save their lives. My 'Sunshine Plan' will give them a choice on treatment day, to rewrite the experience they have with cancer and empower them to choose something they enjoy after the treatment they must endure."

  • "It is difficult to heal in isolation and it is essential that we meet the growing needs of young survivors. As more childhood cancer patients make it to adulthood, we need to expand our resources to support them and help them survive and thrive as they move into their adult lives. Hopefully if I form this club on my college campus and make it a success, other campuses could begin to form support groups, too. I would love to start a national trend of empowering survivors and thrivers."

  • "Sharing my story with like-minded college students will allow us to personalize our messages with information on why research funding is so important for survivors like me. My survivor story matters and can help highlight and strengthen the cause."
